Not Too Hard, Not Too Soft, Just Right, presents a giant soft flower and two cushioned boulders inviting the public a unique way to repose. Originally proposed and constructed for the courtyard of Industry City, Brooklyn, NY. Not Too Hard, Not Too Soft, Just Right, is a piece of public furniture that plays with scale referencing the primeval flower and related geology. Continuing Pillow Culture’s interest in the relationship of monumental form and comfort via the familiar - in this case a pillow, a flower, and a rock.

Constructed from an iridescent high performance mesh and conceived as a skin capable of being stuffed with various types of discarded textile debris, this future flower, whose sex remains curious, can inflate, bloom, or deflate. Not Too Hard, Not Too Soft, Just Right reconsiders the normative pillow by a shift in scale and form to instigate a site for collective intimacy in a public place.

This unique pillow is available for indoor and outdoor public installation. Not Too Hard, Not Too Soft, Just Right fits into a 24” x 36 “ box making for easy transport to any site. Not Too Hard, Not Too Soft, Just Right’s mesh casing can be filled with a variety of on-site scrap materials which can be recycled upon deinstallation.
